Medical and clinical waste must be segregated at the point of generation. Sharps, infectious materials, pharmaceutical waste, and pathological waste each require appropriate containers and labelling before they leave your facility.

NEMA-licensed transporters must collect sensitive categories using approved vehicles and routes. Your facility should receive a waste manifest for each pickup that describes quantities, waste types, and destination.

Staff training is part of compliance: periodic refreshers on segregation, spill response, and what belongs in each bin reduce both risk and cost.

Keep manifests and certificates in an organised file — electronic or physical — so HSE and external auditors can sample them quickly during surveillance visits.
